MAYDAY // MAY 28th 2010 w/EXCISION / AK1200 / KIDS AT THE BAR!!

MADAY,MAYDAY,MAYDAY... IT'S GOING DOWN!!!

White Light Productions presents.. • MAYDAY : 05.28.10 • @ The Lizard Lounge

Feat. Excision // AK1200 // Kids at the Bar + Many more...
Camo Themed Event!!!

Excsion:
Taking influence from DnB, Metal, and Hip Hop, Excision is an artist who must be heard to fully believe. Combining the morphing bass lines of Drum and Bass, the aggressive energy of Metal, and the laid back vibes of hip hop, Excision's style is incomparable.
This young Canadian's passion for music has already driven him to become one of the biggest Dubstep acts of North America. Anyone who has heard a set by this bad boy has walked away feeling energized and refreshed. If your lucky enough to catch a live set, expect an assault of bass heavy tracks, mixed quickly and seamlessly.
Upon the selling out and repressing of his first release, "No Escape" on his own label Rottun Recordings, it became apparent that there was a large demand for the dark side of Dubstep. This was proven to be true when Excision was asked by Electronic Music Superstars Pendulum to remix their single "Showdown."
Look out for collaborations with Bassnectar, Pendulum, Datsik, DZ, Skism, Reso and many more. Following a U.S. tour with Pendulum, watch out for Excision in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Europe.

AK1200:
an Orlando, Florida-native, widely recognized as The Godfather of drum n’bass in America, has the longest running career of any drum n’ bass DJ in the US - the first to giveexposure to hundreds of UK based artists in the states. Truly an asset to the electronic dance music community, his lengthy list of credentials speaks for itself. From his writing background with UK and US-based music magazines, to his A&R work for Moving Shadow, all elements have served to create incredibly high demand for his performances and production work, taking him to all corners of the earth. AK’s extensive discography includes collaborations and remix work with talent quite diverse in range - from electronica greats Rabbit in the Moon and Crystal Method, to hip hop’s Tribe Called Quest. His classic remix of Cleveland Lounge's "Drowning" is one of the most widely recognized drum n’ bass songs in America. His works have been released on labels such as Moonshine MusicFFRRJive ElectroMoving Shadow, and Breakbeat Science.

MORE INFO SOON!!! STAY POSTED!!!

DEFTONES DUBSTEP REMIX?!?!?!

So this came out in December of 2009, and for some STUPID reason, I just discovered it (well about a month ago).

I love electronic music (dnb/dubstep), and have been eagerly anticipating someone doing a PROPER remix of a Deftones track!

Here is BAR 9's remix of "My Own Summer (SHOVE IT!)"

http://www.yousendit.com/download/OHo2L0dERnd6NE5FQlE9PQ

Since it's a bootleg, I don't think it should be a big deal if this is posted, but if it is, I'll pull it as soon as I'm told.  So grab it while its there!!!

Absolum - "Ink" (Metal / Rock)

As many of my close friends can recall, I grew up listening to rock, metal, alternative, and stuff like that for a long time.  Deftones is my favorite band EVER, and it was only natural that liking such aggressive music would lead into my interest of Drum + Bass.

Here is a song that is by a Dallas band called Absolum.   The track, Ink, was written and recorded in 2009 some time, maybe early 2010, i forgot.  Anyhow, I've been jamming this song long enough, I felt others should finally hear it.  I uploaded it to my soundcloud account because they do not have a site, or any of the sort at this time.  This is their FIRST song together and it KICKS ASS.  I look forward to more killer songs and definetly some awesome live gigs!

written by Sean Sherrow (guitar), Michael Metcalf (guitar), Joe Christie (vox).  Live drums by Matt Pfifner, and Bass by Dathan.

SERIOUS SHIT HERE FOLKS!

Download my Remix of Daft Punk's Aerodynamic

Quick and simple.  Made for the dancefloor, not really jamming in ur car.  Really fun to mix if you're a DJ.

Daft Punk - Aerodynamic (DJ Titan's DnB Rmx)

Download This Track!! Shrike : "Drunken Velvet"

This shit is sick!!  My friend Chas (Shrike) did this.  Its called Drunken Velvet.   If sounds like a cross between Sub Focus' "Timewarp" with Ewun + Evol Intent ft Dieselboy's "Midnight Express".   Well at least I think so anyway.

This guy is definetly an awesome talent to watch out for.  Can't wait to hear more!

I DJ with Traktor Scratch Pro

A lot of people notice that I use a bunch of different ways to DJ.  I like to be ready for any situation, so you will always find Traktor Scratch control records, Serato Scratch Live control records, the Traktor and Serato Scratch Live timecode burned to the same discs, as well as plenty of cd's for backup.

My preference is Traktor Scratch Pro.  Sure, Serato Scratch Live is cool, but I feel a bit limited by it's restrictive interfaces.   Traktor Pro's interface offers me 4 virtual decks to be controlled by either midi, vinyl turntables (my preference), or cdjs (not my preference but more reliable than vinyl decks at a club).

Below is a picture of what I carry / used to carry around with me for almost 2 years to control either Traktor Scratch or Serato Scratch Live's cue points / efx.

That's an Akai MPD32.  I retired that as I abused the crap out of it live and it just does not function properly anymore.  My buddy Joel (frodo) spilled beer on it one night at the Cavern, another time a drunk girl bumped it off the laptop stand at The Lizard Lounge once early in a night.  Oh well, it was time to move on anyway.  It was rather bulky to carry around.

Now THIS is the Traktor Kontrol X1 by Native Instruments (Germany, hence the K's in the traktor and kontrol).  I switched to using two of these because they are already preset to almost all of the features I use in Traktor.  Another awesome feature is that I can use this with tons of other softwares (including Serato, Ableton, etc.).  The first time I used this, I was lucky enough to play a 4 hour set at the Lizard Lounge with two x1's, 2 turntables with complete vinyl control, and a 4 channel mixer.  Everything went smoothly.

A lot of people like to stay in the past and fear new technologies, as they feel its a way to cheat.  This is definetly not the case.  It takes time to learn how to use all of the features to the fullest extent, something I find most to be too lazy to even want to conquer.  Others (like I just mentioned) just want to live in the past, and not even give technology the chance.  As cdj's and software continue to push the limits of creativity, I feel confident that the future of DJ'ing will continue to see tons of crowd / party rockers expressing themselves while taking advantage of the tools provided to do so.

I respect traditional thinking, but I personally like to think forward instead when possible.  Something I learned from a role model that doesn't even think like that anymore.  Kind of sad, but I totally feel they will come around.
